Orthodontics for teenagers
Teenagers are naturally eager to look their best during adolescence. For many teens, orthodontic treatment is a logical step.

During puberty, the teeth and jaws are still developing. This makes orthodontic corrections in teens particularly efficient.
Wat does orthodontic treatment for teenagers involve?
Teenagers represent a large part of orthodontic care. Their permanent teeth typically begin erupting between the ages of 11 and 14, making this the ideal time to start treatment.
At this age, the jaw is still developing and the teeth can be moved more easily. The most common treatments for teenagers include fixed braces and clear aligners.
In addition to correcting functional issues, orthodontic treatment can significantly boost a teen’s self-confidence by showing a beautiful and healthy smile.
Our approach to teen treatment
With teenagers, it’s not just about dental health - it’s also about aesthetics. Like everyone, teens want to look their best, and crooked teeth are something they’d rather avoid.
Before their teeth are perfectly straight, teens need to wear braces for an extended period. Some might see braces as a cool accessory, while others may not feel self-conscious about them.
At OrthoGroep Opdebeeck & Preda, we understand that starting orthodontic treatment is a big step for teens. For this reason, we take a personal and professional approach, carefully considering the needs and preferences of both the teenager and their parents.
During the initial consultation, both teens and parents are encouraged to ask any questions they may have. We take the time to discuss all available treatment options, so you can make the choice that’s right for you. After that, we ensure that the process is as comfortable and smooth as possible.
And remember: the better you take care of your braces, the faster your treatment will progress.
How long does a teenager need to wear braces?
The duration of orthodontic treatment for teenagers depends on the severity of the misalignment and the type of appliance used.
On average, treatment with fixed braces lasts 1.5 to 2 years. With clear aligners, the duration may vary depending on how consistently the aligners are worn.
Once the braces are removed, it’s crucial to keep the teeth in their corrected position. This is why we often place a fixed retainer - a thin metal wire bonded discreetly to the back of the teeth to help maintain alignment. In addition, we often recommend wearing a night retainer for extra support.
We provide high-quality, teen-focused orthodontic care. Our team of experienced specialists ensures that every patient feels at ease and understands every step of the process.
