Orthodontics for adults
Orthodontics is no longer just for children and teenagers. More and more adults are choosing to correct their smiles and improve their dental health.

Whether you're seeking functional or aesthetic improvements, adult orthodontics offers modern and discreet solutions.
How adult orthodontic treatment works
Orthodontic treatment in adults differs slightly from treatment in children and teens, primarily because adults are no longer in a growth phase. During your initial consultation, we always analyze the current, fully developed condition of your jaw and teeth. Based on this assessment, we create a tailored treatment plan.
In some cases, we may first need to refer you to another specialist, such as an oral surgeon (stomatologist) or periodontist, before orthodontic treatment can begin.
When developing a treatment plan, we always take into account both the personal wishes of the patients and the functional needs of their teeth. We take the time to thoroughly analyze the situation and propose the most effective and comfortable solution.
The importance of aesthetics for adults
Many adults pursue orthodontics for aesthetic reasons. A well-aligned smile not only boosts self-confidence, but also improves oral hygiene and reduces the risk of dental problems.
Since the visual aspect plays such an important role in the decision-making process for adults, we offer a variety of discreet treatment options: clear aligners, lingual invisible braces, ceramic (tooth-colored) braces, … However, some adults don’t mind wearing traditional metal braces at all!
During the consultation, we’ll help you choose the option that best fits your personal goals and lifestyle.
Can one be too old for braces?
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment! The only requirement is that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to support a brace.
How long does adult orthodontic treatment take?
The duration of treatment depends mainly on the complexity of the correction.
If referral to another specialist is needed before orthodontic treatment can begin, this will naturally extend the overall timeline.
Additionally, the type of appliance used - combined with the difficulty of the case - will impact the treatment length.
For minor corrections, treatment with clear aligners can be relatively short. For more complex cases requiring fixed braces, the process typically takes longer.
After the braces are removed, placing a retention wire is essential to preserve the result. This is a thin metal wire bonded to the back of the teeth to keep them neatly aligned.
In many cases, we also recommend combining the wire with a removable night retainer for optimal long-term stability.
